We are The Battle of Gravelines, a rock band based in Columbus, Ohio. Formed in summer 2011 by Nick Brownfield (vocals/guitar) and Ed Schwartz (drums/backing vocals), the position of bassist falls to Ryan Bradford, and our newest member is Michael Gall playing lead guitar. Most of us met in high school and found similar musical interests like including Green Day, Blink-182 and Sum 41, which are just some of the bands that we drew inspiration from. Each of us brings a unique style and inspiration to the band. Nick’s style comes from his blues background and love of pop punk. Ed brings 70’s rock mixed with thrash to the drums. Ryan’s bass parts are littered with his love of alternative rock and 80’s hair metal. Michael comes from a metal background and provides his own heavy twist to our sound. With this wide variety, our songs take on a life of their own whilst being written; giving them a hook to catch the listener and good old rock to keep them there.
We get our name, The Battle of Gravelines, from the historical battle off the coast of Gravelines, France. In this battle the English, with a rag tag group of ships, took down the Spanish Armada, which happened to be the most powerful navy at the time. We’re the underdogs, and we are ready to take on the world.
